The office of complaints

I’m going to talk about TV series again. Yeah I know… it was already the same in my last post. But I have to.

See… the thing is… I receive numerous newsletters every day from different agencies, companies and whatnot. So today when I received Vanksen’s newsletter I looked at it like I usually do.

Except that today one of the title really intrigued me.

Faceless people are invading London

It was tempting so I clicked on the link… and was immediately shocked to see the similarities between that street marketing campaign and one of episodes from (new) Doctor Who series 2.

DW – The Idiot’s Lantern

Faceless People as seen in the streets of London

Except none of the articles I read seemed to have noticed it except the Telegraph.

Of course and as hinted by the article I doubt that the campaign is indeed a stunt from the BBC to reveal the name of the 11th doctor (especially that the “reveal” website is clearly tagged “Lotus Cars”). But it would have been an AMAZING campaign for us sci-fi fans.

Lotus ?! Let me tell you that your agency has some weird ways of dealing with cultural references and that you should change for one that actually knows what’s going on in the media. One could be arguing that I’m talking about it so it still worked in a way but… I can’t get around the fact that the reveal will be ludicrous. Why would you associate people’s faces getting sucked by their television and a car ?

Where’s Charlie ? Wait a minute…

Yeah we are in March !

The Festival Season will soon begin and the first line-ups are emerging.

For the occasion, the greenest of all festivals (aka Glasto) came up with a new and creative marketing campaign. Orange and Poke London launched the “Spot the Bull” advergame.

The trick is to find out where Derek the Bull (a real bull in a real field) is going to be at 3pm every day. All day long GPS and cameras are filming Derek the Bull. If you can manage to spot him precisely you’ll get a chance to win a ticket for two for Glasto 2008.

Poke London launched the Derek campaign as a symbol of Glasto’s green image (the festival was cancelled in 2006 in order to preserve the countryside and strengthen the grounds which had been damaged for years).
